Je suis Sherri.
Dr Sherri Tenpenny, an anti-vaccination campaigner, recently had to cancel a speaking tour of Australia.
Initially, her visit was under threat due to a clamour for her visa application to be denied.
She eventually cancelled due to intimidation from pro-vaccination interests.

From the ABC website;
"American anti-vaccination campaigner Dr Sherri Tenpenny has cancelled her speaking tour of Australia amid security concerns.

The controversial speaker had booked appearances in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Gold Coast, however a number of venues had cancelled because of mounting complaints from the public.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Dr Tenpenny said that "pro-vaccine extremists had made continual, anonymous threats of vandalism and violence" and that organisers could no longer guarantee the safety of attendees.

Fellow anti-vaccination campaigner Australian Stephanie Messenger had been due to speak with Dr Tenpenny and had organised much of the tour.

"Some people were planning to bring babies," she said in the Facebook statement.

"The threats have been persistent.

"We are not able to insure that the attendees would be safe from harm."

Ms Messenger also claimed that "pro-vaccine extremists have been sabotaging the venues and have threatened to disrupt the normal business operations of the locations during the meetings"."

"Who gives a shit?", I hear you ask.

Well, anyone that cared about Charlie's right to freedom of speech and expression, I would hope.
Disagree all you like, but intimidation and coercion are out of bounds.

The media in this country didn't apply the same standard, unfortunately.

Have I spelled "hypocrisy" correctly?

Re: Je suis Sherri.
The CDC in the US keep mortality records on vaccinations and one of those records reads like this.

Number of people that have died between 2004-2014-
Not Vaccinated - ZERO
Vaccinated - 108

Some of you will say that it's a risk worth taking. Now look at your child and ask yourself how you would feel if that child was one of the 108. Would you vaccinate again?
Vaccinating children for every disease out there in the world has gone beyond being out of control. In the 50s and 60s if a kid had measles the families would throw measles parties so that the other kids could contract the disease thereby building their immunity to it. A girl recently died from a fucking flu shot. A fucking outrage!
But hey, just go ahead and pump this shit into you bodies without question, there's a good chance you'll be fine.

Thanks stomper, appreciate any advice she can give, even if it's to just fuck off.

If she doesn't want to answer or doesn't feel like etc, that's absolutely fine.

Sure, but she aint feeling great at the moment. I'll try to get her to reply to you, but its not a subject she's polite about.

The problem we have is that there isn't a lot of material related to our situation, so it's difficult to make a really well informed decision.

stomper - if you don't mind, I'm going to send you a WHOMail about it. Would love to hear your wife's thoughts on the matter.

The MMR scare was based on 1 study which has long been discredited. Andrew Wakefield, the guy responsible, was a fraud and has been struck off. Even 10 of the 12 co-authors retracted their part in the research when they found out about his fraud.

Funny you should mention finances, he had multiple conflicts of interest and stood to make a lot of money from contracts related to his fraudulent work.

Re: Je suis Sherri.
Look at the authors. Most are exactly that, unbiased and in search of truth, and they all support vaccination.
If you think about it, pharmaceutical companies would much rather have a treatment than a vaccine. I'm on drugs for blood pressure and cancer that I will have to take for the rest of my life. Same with people with HIV. Far more profitable than a vaccine.

Yes, and we all know that all studies are completely unbiased and not influenced by financial considerations.

Hmmm. Are you suggesting a person that HAD been vaccinated could die after contact with someone that hadn't?

Once again you have used completely irrelevant comparisons to support your point.

The key issue remains that if someone's view or opinion is suppressed then someone is making a judgement on our behalf as to what is or isn't allowed based on their own bias or belief. This is unacceptable in my opinion.

My point is nothing to do with the rights and wrongs of vaccination by the way but is a general principle.

I haven't heard of Spingola. I'll take a look when I've got some time.

As for mentions of "safe levels" of Thimerasol, it is a fact that when certain elements exceed safe levels, the interested parties see to it that the safe level is adjusted to accommodate this rather than adjust the offending product.

Re: Je suis Sherri.
You only have the organisers word that they were threatened, or more importantly any credible threat existed, the biggest threat is to children who WILL die because of dangerous, self important twerps who think they know something everyone else doesn't based on nothing, and the gullible fuckwits who follow them.

Perhaps they didn't seek enough tickets and this was a way out to save face and gain sympathy. Whatever the reason, glad it's been cancelled.

I think the message here is “Hypocrisy” and the lengths some people will go to if they don’t agree with someone else’s view yet would be screaming about it if someone wanted to gag them.

Don’t have a strong view on vaccination, but do on the right to have a different opinion to the establishment and on those who try and suppress or intimidate and threaten people for it, Cunts of the highest order.

Ron is bang on IMO

Eh?

That sounds even more ridiculous than the OP.

Great discussion as always on WHO.

I think its right to suppress the views of anti-vac campaigners, they are up there with hate-preachers working on the weak minded and fooking them up making trouble for everyone else.

Just look at what has happened in areas of this country where these ideas have taken hold. Sick/dead kids is what you get.

I have absolutely no desire to needlessly allow the spread of childhood diseases like all anti-vaccination people inadvertently do.

That said, there is no excuse for personal attacks on someone, no matter how much damage they are inadvertently doing.

Free Speech doesn't protect speech that will cause harm. You are not free to shout "fire" at the pictures if there is no fire. If you do and some gets hurt in a stampede then you should go to prison.

Some people think that they drive better drunk. If they started encouraging others to drive drunk because they didn't believe in "sober-driving" I'd want them stopped. Fuck their right to "free speech". This is exactly the same.
